Pilot Grants

The Berkeley Population Center (BPC)’s call for pilot grants for the 2025-2026 grant cycle is now open to faculty investigators and researchers. Pilot grant proposals submitted by February 1, 2026 will be given full consideration, but grant submissions will also be accepted on a rolling basis pending availability of funds. Proposed research must be aligned with one of our signature themes of Demography and Data Science, Formal Demography, Reproduction and HIV, Population Health, and Family Policy. We give funding priority to projects aligned with the mission of NICHD’s Population Dynamics Branch, but other funding sources are allowable.

Grants awarded are typically between $3,000-$15,000 in direct costs over a one-to-two year period. In special cases, with strong promise of further, successful funding from the NIH, up to $20,000 may be granted. View the full call along with instructions. See also past awards.
