DATA

IPUMS NHIS. Nearly 650 variables from the 2025 National Health Interview Survey sample have been added, including the Voice, Swallowing, Speech, and Language Communication supplement and rotating core content on adverse childhood experiences, adult and child mental health, chronic pain, and use of preventive and other medical services.

IPUMS CPS. The August 2026 Basic Monthly Sample is now available, along with nearly 200 additional variables integrated for selected samples of the Tobacco Use Supplement and the Disability Supplement.

IPUMS IHGIS. Tables and boundary files have been released for the Burundi 2008, Tunisia 2014, and Türkiye 2021 population and housing censuses. CALLS

IPC2029: Call for Session Topic Suggestions. The IUSSP Council invites members to suggest session topics for the International Population Conference 2029 Call for Papers. This is an opportunity to help shape the scientific programme by identifying key areas of demographic research, emerging issues, innovative methodologies, and new theoretical and policy perspectives to be represented at the conference. Suggestions are due December 15, 2026.

CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

Rethinking Urbanization in Asia: Comparative Demographic Perspectives Using DEGURBA. The Asian Demographic Research Institute at Shanghai University, with the European Commission Joint Research Centre and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, invites papers for a workshop in Shanghai, October 26–27, 2026, on harmonized measurement of urbanization across Asia. The Degree of Urbanization (DEGURBA) classifies settlements by population density, size, and spatial contiguity, making cross-national comparison possible where national urban definitions diverge. Papers will also feed a special issue of China Population and Development Studies. Limited funding is available, with priority to participants in the 2025 DEGURBA training workshop. Abstracts are due October 10, 2026. Submit a paper or extended abstract, noting any request for support, to tzhang91@shu.edu.cn.

Conference on Older Adults, Families, and Care. The Michigan Center on the Demography of Aging and the Center for Aging Families at Bowling Green State University will co-host a conference on the changing demography of US families and its implications for health and care in the second half of life, June 3–4, 2027, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Demographic shifts in the size and composition of older adults’ family networks have consequences for health and for meeting daily care needs; topics of particular interest link population-level changes in families and living arrangements to population health outcomes, including care needs and caregiving. Organizers expect to accept 8–10 papers and 8–10 posters, with plans for a special issue based on the presentations, and early career researchers are encouraged to apply. Abstracts are due November 15, 2026. See the conference and abstract submission details, or learn more about the MiCDA Changing Demography of Family Caregiving Network.

The same session runs four times: September 22, 11:00–12:00 CEST and 11:00–12:00 Pacific; September 23, 08:00–09:00 and 12:00–13:00 Singapore time. Select a time when you register.
