NIH FUNDING
NIH Resubmission Policy: If you are planning on a resubmission, it is worthwhile to read this announcement: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/
NIH Appendix Policy: NIH really wants people to not abuse the Appendix policy, and ignorance is no excuse. I just heard a sad story where an applicant’s grant was withdrawn because they included documents previously allowable in the appendix but no longer allowable in the current call. Unless the FOA (announcement) specifies otherwise, it’s basically just survey/interview instruments and consent forms.
Short-term Mentored Career Enhancement Awards in Mobile and Wireless Health Technology and Data Analytics: Cross-Training at the intersection of Behavioral and Social Sciences and STEM Disciplines (K18 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed). A ‘K18’ is a grant for senior researchers who want to venture into new areas of scholarship for synergies and innovative perspectives. It could be for sabbatical funding. It could be for a soft-money researcher. It’s for someone with data science skills to get insights from a behavioral or social scientist. Or vice versa. It could be a collaboration with a partner outside the university. For more information: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/

The NBER’s Center on Aging and Health Research is holding a one-day workshop on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the NBER offices in Cambridge. It will begin at 9:00 and conclude at 4:00. It will bring together people who are working on adult mortality in the U.S. and other wealthy countries. We anticipate that there will be both panel discussions, and short presentations followed by open discussion, of issues related to the slowdown in progress against chronic disease, and to the rapid increase in external causes of death. There will not be time for full paper presentations, and we would ask participants to read workshop materials prior to the meeting to make the most out of the time available. If you are working in this area and would like to be included, or have a paper that you would like to submit for consideration, please respond to this announcement by August 22, 2018. Please RSVP using the link: http://conference.nber.org/
