Call for Event Proposals

The Berkeley Population Center (BPC) and the UC Berkeley Center on the Economics and Demography of Aging (CEDA) are seeking proposals to fund for innovative events that are aligned with Centers’ signature themes (BPCCEDA).  This could be in the form of workshops, mini-conferences, meetings, webinars, or other substantive activities that our Centers could help you advance. BPC and CEDA will provide full or co-support for events that could range from low budget lunches to workshop events up to $20,000.

Purpose

The purpose of the proposed activity should relate to either BPC or CEDA’s signature themes as well as do any of the following:

  • Advance population science by holding workshops on cutting edge topics and involving leading researchers;
  • Enhance harmonization and comparability of data sets;
  • Engage a range of BPC and CEDA affiliates across disciplines, thereby helping to integrate and improve the coherence of the group;
  • Inform policy (for example, in the areas of reproductive health, or parental leave, or Social Security and Medicare);
  • In co-sponsored meetings, to add an emphasis on (for instance) data science, or reproductive health or aging, etc., or related themes;
  • Generate new research and quality publications.

Process

Proposals, along with a budget, can be submitted on a rolling basis to CEDA (ceda@berkeley.edu) and BPC (populationcenter@berkeley.edu). Proposals should be 1-2 pages, including topic, significance, innovation, objectives, format, target participants, timing, and resource needs.

We also welcome preliminary inquiries via informal email (Will Dow wdow@berkeley.edu or Michelle Poulin mpoulin@berkeley.edu) or initial conversations and will work with submitters to refine their idea and write the proposal.
